Bursary
The mission of The Parent’s Choice Bursary is to provide an educational alternative for children from low-income families in Calgary and area.
Our application form for The Parent’s Choice Bursary can be downloaded here. Please note that these forms must be filled out and returned to the qualifying school. Any forms sent directly to The Prosser Charitable Foundation will result with a disqualification.
This Bursary is intended to promote participation in private/independent schools in Calgary and area, and gives preference to students enrolling in the first year offered at the qualifying school. The bursary covers 50% of the total annual tuition (after any discounts are applied) to a maximum of $5,000.00. It is the intention of The Foundation to maintain the bursary award throughout the student’s school career (to grade 12), and as such, the Bursary follows the student (should they continue to meet the criteria and if the student transfers to another qualified private/independent school).
Bursaries are awarded to students enrolled in Private or Independent Schools in Calgary and area. A qualifying school must be accredited as an Independent (not Alternative through any regional school board) School by Alberta Education and have a valid Charitable Organization Registration number from Canada Revenue Agency.
In order to qualify for this bursary, students must come from low income families. Income guideline can be found under the News/Events tab on the Home Page of our website, www.theprossercharitablefoundation.ca. Parents/Guardians are required to provide a copy of their Income Tax Notice of Assessment for the last tax year available and provide details of family members so we can determine the size of the household making application. Families may alternatively supply proof of government assistance (examples: Calgary Transit Subsidized Transit Pass; Assured Income for Handicapped Person Status; or Subsidized rent for city housing or approved housing cooperative).
Applications are given the following priorities for funding:
We require you to identify potential applicants and to help process and distribute bursary payments to your school’s recipient(s). You will also be required to issue the necessary T4A’s.
Families who received bursaries in prior years and are reapplying are required to complete a renewal application form for the current year. Please feel free to make photocopies as required.
All applications must be received in The Prosser Charitable Foundation office by 4:30pm on the date indicated on the News/Events page. Please mail or courier to: Parent’s Choice Bursary, The Prosser Charitable Foundaion, 201 – 908 17th Avenue SW, Calgary, AB T2T 0A3.
